Missing cat found at New York airport

NEW YORK, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- American Airlines announced it has found a cat lost more than seven weeks ago at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York.

The airline announced Jack, the cat lost by airline workers Aug. 25 while his owner, Karen Pascoe, was preparing to fly home to California, was found in the customs room at the airport and taken to a local veterinarian, ABC News reported Wednesday.

American Airlines said the cat was given a clean bill of health and will soon be flown to California to be with Pascoe.

The cat was found after the Oct. 22 "Jack the Cat Awareness Day" at the airport, which aimed to encourage airport workers to be on the lookout for the missing feline.

Russian town cooks largest porridge

TULA, Russia, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Officials in a Russian city said they have made it into the Guinness Book of World Records with a 1,906-pound porridge.

Tula city administrators said Guinness certified the porridge, cooked Sept. 10 as part of the city's 865th anniversary celebrations, was the largest in the world, RIA Novosti reported Wednesday.

"The process of officially recognizing the new Guinness world record began on Sept. 12 and has concluded successfully," the officials said in a statement.

The dish beat the previous record holder, a 1,168-pound porridge cooked in Britain in July 2010.

Eateries mark Greasy Foods Day

MILWAUKEE, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Milwaukee-area restaurants marked National Greasy Foods Day by bringing out their greasiest concoctions for customers.

Glenn Fieber, owner of Solly's Grille in Glendale, Wis., said Tuesday's National Greasy Foods Day was the perfect day to enjoy one of his restaurant's butter-covered burgers, WITI-TV, Milwaukee, reported Wednesday.

"We grill the hamburger, and the grease comes off of a 100 percent sirloin burger, and it makes the food taste all that much better," Fieber said.

Demetrius Jones, owner of Henry's and Bobbie's Bungalow Restaurant in Milwaukee, said his food is among the greasiest customers are likely to find.

"When I hear 'National Greasy Foods Day,' it makes me smile, you know, because we love grease!" Jones said.

Customers said they are aware of the health risks in high-grease diets.

"With all the diets out here and everything, that's fine and dandy, but it's still hard to get away from that good grease, man," one customer said.

Dutch artist behind washed-up Lego man

SIESTA KEY, Fla., Oct. 26 (UPI) -- An 8-foot-tall Lego man that washed up on Siesta Key Beach in Florida appears to be the work of a Netherlands artist.

The 100-pound Lego man, which bears the mangled message "NO REAL THAN YOU ARE" on its torso, was discovered Tuesday morning by Jeff Hindman as he was walking on the beach, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported Wednesday.

The sculpture, which is currently being held by the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office and will be turned over to Hindman if it is not claimed within 90 days, matches similar Lego men that washed up in the Netherlands in 2007 and England in 2008.

The Siesta Key Lego man bears the name "Ego Leonard" on the back with the number 8.

The Herald-Tribune said Ego Leonard is the name of the Dutch artist, but it is unclear whether it is his real name. An e-mail request for comment was answered from the perspective of the Lego man.

"I am glad I crossed over. Although it was a hell of a swimm," Leonard wrote. "Nice weather here and friendly people. I think I am gonna stay here for a while. A local sheriff escorted me to my new home."
