"So I just scoop it up?" he asked the sales clerk as he worked his way through the maze of sugary goodness. "That's how it's done."
As he walked, one reporter noted, "You won't find this in the White House garden, Mr. President."
"On Halloween, the first lady doesn't mind," Obama said as he scooped up maple nut clusters, macaroons and peppermint patties.
Rounding the corner, Obama saw another long candy counter.
"It just goes on forever," he said.
