DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- A Tajikistan airline announced a baby boy was born over Kazakhstan on a plane traveling from Dushanbe, the Tajik capital, to Moscow.

Lola Kendzhaeva, a spokeswoman for Tajik Air, said the airline bans pregnant women from flying during the third trimester of pregnancy, but sometimes expecting mothers "conceal their real terms by providing false medical documents," RIA Novosti reported Friday.

"Shabnam Rakhimova gave birth 2 hours before landing as the plane was crossing Kazakhstan airspace," Kendzhaeva said.

She said the baby was delivered by a nurse with the help of flight attendants.

"Despite the extreme conditions, the delivery went smoothly. The passengers greeted the boy with wild applause," the spokeswoman said.

The airline said it was the third time a baby has been born on board one of its planes since 2007.
