MIDDLETOWN, Ohio, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- An Ohio couple tied the knot, then celebrated by jumping out of an airplane 7,500 feet in the air.

Gail Mathis, 54, and new husband Phil Mathis, 58, have been together for about three years and decided to go skydiving after a ceremony on the plane Saturday, the Dayton (Ohio) Daily News reported.

Phil came up with the idea to take the plunge from the Start Skydiving facility at the Middletown, Ohio, Hook Field as an ultimatum for Gail.

"The idea was to do something really crazy," Phil said. "She said she wasn't going to jump and I said that's the only way we're getting married. That was her ultimatum. She told me, 'I don't want to be married that bad.'"

Gail went along with the idea despite her reservations.

"I'm glad it's over with," Gail said. "You free fall for about a minute, and then just enjoy floating down with the 'chute."

The newlyweds have planned a trip to Cancun, Mexico, for their honeymoon.
