BRISTOL, England, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- British organizers of an attempt to fly the world's largest kite ever said they canceled their plans after problems with the kite and windy conditions.

Avril Baker, an organizer of the Bristol International Kite Festival in England, said attempts to fly the kite, which is larger than a soccer field, for at least 20 minutes failed twice Saturday due to a tear in the tails. A planned Sunday attempt was called off due to windy conditions, Sky News reported Monday.

"We were delighted we got the kite to fly yesterday but we're obviously disappointed we didn't get a chance to go for the world record, particularly for the kite team and all the spectators that were there," Baker said.

The kite, which is owned by a Kuwait family, has a wingspan of more than 180 feet and a body length of 131 feet.
