DUNKIRK, France, July 30 (UPI) -- A French prosecutor said he is refusing to send some convicts to jail because of overcrowded conditions.
Philippe Muller, public prosecutor for Dunkirk, said the town jail already has 150 inmates, 50 more than it was designed to hold, and he is delaying sentences because he doesn't want inmates sleeping on floors, Radio France Internationale reported Friday.
That means some of them will go free until there is room for them in jail, RFI said.
Muller said convicted criminals will be sent to jail if their offenses are considered especially serious.
