CHICAGO, July 22 (UPI) -- A woman whose attempt to shoot at a Chicago police officer failed when the bullets fell from her gun was sentenced to 55 years in prison.
Shandra Kidd was sentenced Thursday after being convicted of attempted murder and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon in the May 2007 incident, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Friday.
Police said officers were responding to a report of shots fired near 78th and Burnham and Kidd fled on foot when the car she was riding in was stopped by police.
An officer caught up to Kidd and she placed the gun against the officer's chest and pulled the trigger, police said. However, they said the gun was not loaded because the bullets had fallen out while Kidd was running.
Kidd attempted to shoot the officer a second time while struggling, but again failed, police said.
