HATCH, N.M., July 21 (UPI) -- The owners of a New Mexico restaurant said drunken pranksters shoved their 8-foot-tall rooster statue from its perch atop a GMC Suburban.

Teako and Josie Nunn said the statue, named Sparky after their Hatch restaurant, Sparky's Burgers, BBQ, and Espresso, was found on the ground next to the sport-utility vehicle along with some empty beer bottles, the Las Cruces (N.M.) Sun-News reported Wednesday.

"It looks, as though while imbibing beers, some people climbed up the truck and knocked the rooster off its feet," Teako Nunn said.

The owners said the rooster is one of several oversized statues they keep on the lot across from the eatery.

"While most folks love our oversized statues and often pose next to them for photographs, they have also attracted a few people who love to hate them," Teako Nunn said. "This is the first time that we've had any vandalism, however. We're hoping it was more of a drunken prank than anything truly malicious."

The Nunns said repairs to the statue are estimated at $500.
