Poll: Smartphone users annoy partners

LONDON, July 15 (UPI) -- A British survey suggests 35 percent of the country's smartphone owners have annoyed their partners by using them to check work e-mail outside the office.

The YouGov poll of 2,000 British adults, conducted on behalf of customer service company Firstsource Solutions, found 37 percent of male smartphone owners had annoyed their partners by using the Internet-connected phones to check work e-mail while on vacation or on weekends, while 28 percent of women said they annoyed their partners with the same behavior, The Daily Telegraph reported Friday.

The survey found a quarter of respondents ages 25 to 44 admitted to using their smartphones to access work e-mail after leaving for the day.

"This survey shows that smartphones have become an indispensable part of everyday life and people feel the need to check their work e-mails regularly, even when not at work," said Santanu Nandi, executive vice president of Firstsource Solutions' telecom and media division.
