CHICAGO, July 3 (UPI) -- Thieves stole a 70-pound turtle from a Chicago-area pet store, authorities say.

Spur, a 30-year-old female Sulcata tortoise, was stolen from The Animal Store, an exotic pet store in Lincolnwood, Ill., about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, the Chicago Tribune reported. Ken Bearman, owner of the store, suspects the the perpetrators may be getting more than they bargained for.

"The first time it takes a dump in your bedroom, you're going to be sorry," he said, explaining that to the right buyer, Spur could sell for $1,500, but the care and cleanup before selling her would not be worth it.

The store's surveillance proved to be fruitless as evidence, only capturing the thief's foot for a moment, and the sound of breaking glass. Bearman filed a report with local police and has been publicizing the theft on his blog and Facebook page, as well as putting the word out to friends in the exotic animal community.

"Just bring her back," he implored whoever took Spur.
