The quintuplets, one male and four female, were born Friday at the Siberian Tiger Park in Harbin, China, Xinhua reported.

"Usually, white tigers will give birth to two to four cubs at one time. It is rare to see healthy quintuplets," said Liu Dan, the park's chief specialist. The cubs weighed in at about 2.6 to 3.08 pounds.

The newborns join the more than 1,000 Siberian tigers living at the park, founded in 1986.

White Siberian tigers are a subspecies of endangered Bengal tigers, the state-run news agency says. Two hundred to 300 white tigers live in captivity in China.
