Shop has 177-pound watermelon

COLUMBIA, S.C., June 8 (UPI) -- A South Carolina market said a 177-pound seedless watermelon that arrived with its usual shipment will soon be cut up and eaten.

Joey Yandle, spokesman for the family-owned Yandle's roadside market in Columbia, said the giant fruit arrived during the weekend with a batch of melons from Gainesville, Fla., The (Columbia) State reported Wednesday.

The watermelon, which is the size of about 59 average watermelons, has been on display in front of the store and Yandle said it will soon be cut up and eaten.

The Guinness World Record is 268 pounds for a watermelon grown in 2006 in Hope, Ark.
