New York Library closed for anniversary

NEW YORK, May 23 (UPI) -- The New York Public Library's main building was closed Monday to mark the 100th anniversary of the facility's formal dedication.

Officials said the building, which is now called the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, was closed Monday to acknowledge the library being closed on the day of its formal dedication, May 23, 1911, The New York Times reported Monday.

The officials said the original dedication was attended by President William Howard Taft and civilians were first allowed into the building the following day.
