Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe GAINESVILLE, Fla., May 4 (UPI) -- A Florida sheriff's department said a 10-foot alligator caused damage to a patrol car when it clamped its jaws on the front bumper. The Alachua County Sheriff's Office said Deputy Victor Borrero was dispatched to the south end of Gainesville Golf and Country Club, which borders Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park, about 7 p.m. Saturday on a report of a large gator in the area, the Ocala Star-Banner reported Wednesday. Advertisement Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Todd Kelly said the deputy located the alligator and was waiting for a licensed trapper to arrive when the large reptile bit down on the front bumper of his patrol car. The deputy slowly backed up the vehicle to cause the alligator to release its grip and the trapper soon arrived on the scene. Kelly said the bumper was heavily damaged. Animal authorities said the alligator, in compliance with policies for gators more than 4-feet-long, was euthanized.
