Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe TAMPA, Fla., May 3 (UPI) -- Officials with a Florida triathlon said a participant used cardiopulmonary resuscitation to save the life of a fellow racer who was having a heart attack. Organizers of the Meek and Mighty Triathlon, part of the annual St. Anthony's Triathlon events in Tampa, said Teresa McCoy, 37, was nearing the end of the bike portion of the event Saturday morning when she noticed two police officers attempting to save the life of a participant who they believed to be suffering from a seizure, the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times reported Monday. Advertisement McCoy, a nurse at Tampa General Hospital's cardiac lab, determined the man was suffering from a heart attack and administrated CPR. She said she called for a defibrillator and one of the officers had one in his trunk. McCoy said she was able to save the man's life by administering a shock. "As soon as we shocked him, he came to," McCoy said. McCoy said she got back on her bike and finished the race when paramedics showed up on the scene. "I'm so glad he's alive," McCoy said. "I know that God put me where I was supposed to be today. It's like I was his angel today." Advertisement
