PALM BEACH, Fla., May 3 (UPI) -- A Florida divorce attorney claims a judge violated his rights by basing a decision costing him $200,000 on statements made without him present.

Lawyer Joel Weissman said, in a complaint filed Friday with the 4th District Court of Appeal, Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Diana Lewis based a decision on statements made by other lawyers outside of his presence in a case involving his attempts to collect money from a client, the Palm Beach (Fla.) Post reported Tuesday.

"This is the most egregious situation that could occur," he said. "You expect a neutral and impartial arbiter."

Weissman said he wanted Lewis to step down from the case and recuse herself from all of his other cases.

Jonathan Root, one of the attorneys Weissman claims gave information to Lewis, denied the allegations.

"Absolutely not," he said. "I can assure you Judge Lewis would never ever do that."
