VALPARAISO, Ind., April 16 (UPI) -- Authorities in Indiana said a 12-year-old may face juvenile probation following an argument with a school resource officer about some spilled milk.

Valparaiso police said the Benjamin Franklin Middle School sixth grader spilled milk onto his table during his lunch period Tuesday and the school resource officer saw the boy shouting at a staff member who asked him to clean the mess, the Northwest Indiana Times reported Friday.

The officer said he repeatedly asked the boy to calm down but the student refused. The boy continued to yell and attempted to pull away from the officer while walking to the principal's office, police said.

The student was handcuffed after running away from the officer and struggling with him when he was caught.

Police said the boy was released to his father and the case has been submitted to the Juvenile Probation office for review.
