TOMS RIVER, N.J., April 15 (UPI) -- New Jersey police said burglars targeting five residences were caught on camera at one of the locations -- the home of the city police chief.

Toms River police said burglars targeted Police Chief Michael Mastronardy's home and four others Tuesday beginning at noon and security cameras installed at Mastronardy's home captured footage of a burglar and a passing car also believed to be involved in the crimes, the Asbury Park (N.J.) Press reported Thursday.

"We believe the burglaries are all related," Mastronardy said.

"I was only one of many victims the other day," Mastronardy said. "As a victim, I can tell you the comfort I feel being able to look at the video and see who it was who came to my house."

Investigators said the burglars took items including cash, jewelry and prescription medicines from the homes.

"We are cautiously optimistic that arrests are imminent," the police chief said.
