Wife of 65 years gets diamond ring

WAYLAND, Mass., April 5 (UPI) -- A 97-year-old Massachusetts man said he surprised his wife of 65 years with her first diamond ring when they renewed their vows.

Everett Potter of Wayland said he was unable to afford a diamond ring when he first proposed marriage to wife Betty 65 years ago so he took a trip to a local jewelry store and surprised her Monday with a ring at a vow renewal ceremony at their nursing home, WHDH-TV, Boston, reported Tuesday.

"That's why we're still together," Everett Potter joked, "she's waiting till she got a ring."
