Online quiz makes everyone a Liberal

KINGSTON, Ontario, March 30 (UPI) -- A political science professor says a Canadian Broadcasting Corp. online quiz to help voters choose a party defaults to declaring them Liberals.

After a federal election campaign began Saturday, the CBC posted a 30-question survey called Vote Compass to help voters determine which party is most aligned with their own views, the QMI Agency reported.

Professor Kathy Brock of Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, told QMI she completed the survey three times with consistently different responses and each time was told at the end of the survey she suited the Liberal party.

"Every time, it told me I was politically centered and should vote Liberal," Brock said. "If you're giving opposite responses and getting the same result, that's not correct."

The developer of the CBC survey, Cliff van der Linden, said he and a team of University of Toronto researchers used a "rigorous scientific process" in determining responses and that all four federal parties had vetted the questions.

He said 500,000 people had taken the quiz in three days.
