Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe BELMAR, N.J., March 23 (UPI) -- Officials in a New Jersey town have repealed a law that wasn't being enforced anyway, banning sandcastles on beaches that have long hosted sandcastle contests. Belmar Mayor Matthew Doherty said the Borough Council tossed the law as part of an effort to do away with outdated laws, the Asbury Park (N.J.) Press reported Tuesday. On the books but unenforced, the law had made the past 24 years of sandcastle building contests illegal. Advertisement "No person shall model or design in the sand or upon any of the material upon the beachfront except with written consent ... from the Borough Council," the rule read. "In Belmar it is illegal to throw a Frisbee on the beach," Doherty said. "We are looking to change a lot of outdated regulations."
