HOUSTON, March 15 (UPI) -- Texas transportation officials say someone gained access to an electronic traffic sign in Houston and changed the message to read "POOP" and later ":) LOL."

The Texas Department of Transportation said someone broke a lock on the sign, which originally read "DETOUR," and changed the message twice before workers were able to re-secure the on-board computer Monday morning, the Houston Chronicle reported Tuesday.

Department spokeswoman Raquelle Lewis said unauthorized electronic sign access "is disruptive of the process of trying to inform motorists of what's going on in the area."

She said the action carries a potential fine of $500.
