HUNTERSVILLE, N.C., March 10 (UPI) -- A North Carolina eBay seller is auctioning the hearse used to transport the body of race car driver Dale Earnhardt Sr. with a starting bid of $1.5 million.

The seller, using the eBay ID "chmark1968" and based in Huntersville, bills the 1996 Lincoln Town Car hearse as "the last ride of Dale Earnhardt Sr.," who died in a crash during the Feb. 18, 2001, Daytona 500, Charlotte's WBTV reported Wednesday.

The eBay posting erroneously claims the hearse transported Earnhardt to his "final resting place" three days after the crash. The NASCAR star's body was not transported from a funeral home in Huntersville to the mausoleum where he was laid to rest until several weeks after his Feb. 21 funeral, the TV station said.

The auction is scheduled to end Tuesday.
