SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Missouri authorities said they are investigating a tractor-trailer crash that spilled 40,000 pounds of mayonnaise onto Interstate 44.
Springfield police Lt. Scott Leven said the truck driver lost control of the vehicle Saturday night and wound up between the bridge supports and a guardrail underneath the U.S. 65 overpass on I-44, spilling the 20 tons of condiment onto the pavement, the Springfield News-Leader reported Monday.
Leven said no other vehicles were involved in the crash and the cause of the incident is under investigation. He said the driver was not injured.
Police said the eastbound lanes of I-44 were closed for several hours Saturday night for cleanup.
