BELLE GLADE, Fla., Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Officials in a Florida city said a man is breaking the law by organizing litter cleanups on private lots without first seeking permission.

Belle Glade Mayor Steve Wilson and the city attorney said Hydn Rosseau could be charged with criminal trespassing if he continues to lead volunteer groups in cleanup operations on private lots, WPTV, West Palm Beach, reported Thursday.

Rosseau organized a team of about 50 volunteers Saturday in a neighborhood cleanup operation removing litter, including needles and other dangerous items, from several lots.

"I saw debris and trash everywhere and I said I have to come back home and make a difference in my community," Rosseau said.

Residents said they are grateful for Rosseau's work as the lots had been neglected for several years.

Rosseau said he will make an effort to keep his work in line with the law but he won't let fear of prosecution keep him from removing litter.
