ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Police say a call about Santa Claus running around a Buffalo Grove, Ill., neighborhood brandishing an ax turned out to be a student film project.
Officers responded about 10 p.m. Thursday to a call saying that four people, including someone dressed in a Santa suit and carrying an ax, were standing around a gold car with its headlights on, The (Arlington Heights, Ill.) Daily Herald reported.
"I remember hearing it over the radio and I said 'Wow, that's strange,'" Buffalo Grove police Cmdr. Steve Husak said.
"However, it all turned out all right. Santa wasn't doing anything bad."
Officers at the scene found four college students with a video camera filming either a class project a video intended for YouTube.
"The officers told them that location probably wasn't the best place to shoot their film," Husak said. "They had no problem with it and left the area."
"Things like geocaching, scavenger hunts and filming viral videos can come off looking suspicious, but are truly harmless fun," he said. "So, yes, it's best to contact public officials should anyone ever plan on doing something that could raise suspicion."
