Grand piano appears on sandbar

MIAMI SHORES, Fla., Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida said they have no plans to remove a grand piano that mysteriously appeared on a sandbar near a condominium building.

Jorge Pino, a spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, said the piano, which recently appeared on the Biscayne Bay sandbar about 200 yards from Quayside condominiums in Miami Shores, will not be removed unless it's found to pose a danger to boaters or wildlife, the Miami Herald reported Tuesday.

"We are not responsible for removing such items," Pino said. "Even a car can become a habitat for wildlife. Unless the item becomes a navigational hazard, the Coast Guard would not get involved."

Bob Shapiro, a salesman at Piano Music Center in Pembroke Park, said grand pianos weigh at least 650 pounds and are difficult to move. He said he was stumped as to how the piano wound up on the sandbar.

"You don't take it out there in a rowboat," he said.
