LONDON, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Designers of official souvenirs for British Prince William's wedding said the items nearly bore the same initials as the royal restroom.

Royal sources told The Sunday Mirror the items being sold to commemorate the prince's upcoming April wedding to Catherine Middleton nearly bore their initials as "WC," the same as the popular abbreviation for water closet, or bathroom.

"When the collection was being designed they immediately noticed the problem," an insider told The Mirror. "If they followed tradition with the man's name first, as in the case of Charles and Diana, it would be an embarrassing royal flush."

The Royal Collection said Middleton will instead become the first royal bride to have her initial appear before the groom's on the merchandise, including commemorative china.
