MILWAUKEE, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Police in Milwaukee said a bank robbery suspect dubbed the "green robber" for riding a bus away from the crime scene was foiled by the explosion of a dye pack.
Investigators said the man entered the Associated Bank at 1:10 p.m. Monday and demanded money from a teller, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Wednesday.
Police spokeswoman Anne Schwartz said the man, whose name was not released, fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and attempted to board a bus. However, a red dye pack in the package exploded, leading the suspect to throw the money away and quickly move to board a different bus, where he was arrested by officers, Schwartz said.
"The chief (Police Chief Ed Flynn) says he's a 'green robber' for taking the bus," Schwartz said.
