SKOVDE, Sweden, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- A Swedish man said he was fired from a Volvo Powertrain engine plant for describing the facility as a "madhouse" in a Facebook status update.

The worker, whose name was not reported, told the Swedish-language Skaraborgs Allehanda newspaper he was fired from the plant for disloyalty after updating his Facebook with the status "One work day of the week to go in this madhouse," The Local reported Monday.

The man, who was a contractor and not a direct Volvo employee, said he was in a bad mood at the time of the status update because his mother was ill. He said company officials were not swayed by the fact that he had earlier praised Volvo on his Facebook page.

Marten Vikfors, head of media relations at Volvo Group AB, said workers are expected to be "judicious" and "show respect" when using social media.
