Greg and Jessica Porter said they were traveling from their East Jordan home to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City when the Sunday morning snowstorm stranded them along a road in Elk Rapids, The Record-Eagle in Traverse City, reported.

The Porters said they called authorities and baby Bradley Porter was born in the back seat of their vehicle with the assistance of village police officer Michael Courson. They said an ambulance soon arrived to take mother and baby to the hospital, where Bradley weighed 8 pounds.

"That was our only option," Greg Porter said of the roadside birth. "The little one decided that he couldn't wait any longer. He's got a heck of a story to tell."

Cemetery nude man taking orb photography

PICAYUNE, Miss., Dec. 15 (UPI) -- A Mississippi man photographed taking nude photos of himself in a cemetery said he was practicing orb photography, taking pictures of circles of light at night.

The Pearl River County Sheriff's Department said Robert Hurst, 47, was charged with indecent exposure after he was photographed nude in the cemetery in October by a camera set up to capture vandals, The Picayune (Miss.) Item reported.

Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said the investigation determined Hurst was not involved in the vandalism.

Hurst said he was nude in the cemetery because he was practicing orb photography, the practice of capturing circles of light on camera at night. He said he was using his skin as a canvas to capture the orbs, which sometimes take on the appearances of human faces, the report said.

"I've got some great pictures, it's really fascinating," Hurst said.

The postal worker said he had previously told an employee at the office he was going to deliver mail naked because she seemed "stressed out" and he wanted to "make her laugh."

The man said the worker dared him to follow through on his statement.

However, the employee denied "daring him or encouraging him." She said she did not believe the man intended his stunt to harm her.

Chicago surfers ride winter waves

CHICAGO, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Chicago surfers said they are braving post-snowstorm conditions on Lake Michigan because "winter gives you the best waves."

Bryan McDonald, 43, who spent 2 1/2 half hours Monday among the 19-foot waves, said conditions were ideal for winter surfing, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

"Sunday's snow storm brought wind, the wind stirs up the lake, and we have waves," McDonald said. "Winter gives you the best waves."

Ryan Gerard, a local surf shop owner, said strides in wetsuit technology help prevent winter wave-riders from getting hypothermia.

The surfers said their winter antics often attract the attention of emergency responders.

"We've got to go check it out and get close enough to eyeball them and see they're OK," said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford. "Lots of times they'll give a thumbs up and we'll leave them be. They're a hardy bunch I guess."
