VICTORIA, British Columbia, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- Canadian authorities said a $235,000 Ferrari seized during an illegal race was sold to a British Columbia auto dealership.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the 2008 Ferrari Scuderia, seized along with the 2008 BMW M6 it was racing at Mount Seymour, was sold with 50 percent of the proceeds going to the owner, a relative of the driver, and 30 percent going to the driver, the QMI agency reported Wednesday.
The remainder of the money from the sale went to the provincial government, authorities said.
Provincial officials said the BMW will be auctioned on the bcauction.ca Web site with 70 percent of the proceeds going to the government.
The Ferrari was clocked driving 130 mph in a 40 mph zone. Police said the racing cars nearly struck a mother walking with two young children.
The drivers of both cars were banned from operating motor vehicles for 15 days.
