WASHINGTON, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Scores of costumed children of U.S. military families enjoyed a Halloween night to remember Sunday that included trick-or-treating at the White House.

President Barack Obama, first lady Michelle Obama and first grandmother Marian Robinson handed out treat bags to the children in front of the North Portico of the White House. The children and their families then were invited inside.

The president didn't don a costume, going with a gray sweater and slacks. The first lady had her hair slicked back and wore glittery mascara to go with her orange shirt and sweater and black pants.

Their daughters weren't spotted at the event.

The White House and grounds were decorated for the occasion and the festivities included The Potholes Brass Band, a unicyclist and other performers dressed as Dracula, Frankenstein, the Bride of Frankenstein and Wolfman.

The children's treat bags included a box of White House M&Ms, a White House sweet dough butter cookie baked by White House pastry chef Bill Yosses and a serving of dried fruit.

Earlier in the day, Obama visited with reporters aboard Air Force One, divulging his daughter Sasha would be dressing up as a turkey but that he didn't know what her sister Malia had planned. He said the girls were going to friends' homes to trick-or-treat.
