UNIONTOWN, Pa., Oct. 6 (UPI) -- A Pennsylvania man who hid 4 ounces of marijuana in the Elmo backpack his son took to school is spending the next six to 23 months in jail.

Ronald Jacob Washington, 34, who pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of children, drug possession, possession with intent to deliver and disorderly conduct, was sentenced Tuesday under a plea agreement that took one month off the maximum sentence possible.

Police said Washington hid the marijuana in his son's blue Elmo book bag and Uniontown Area School District officials discovered the drugs when he called the school the morning of April 8 and said he needed to retrieve something from the backpack.

"I understand the nature of the crime, and I take full responsibility," Washington told Judge John Wagner Jr.
