CORVALLIS, Ore., Sept. 14 (UPI) -- The editors of Playboy magazine named Oregon State University's "Far Side Entomology" as the best U.S. college class of 2010.

The magazine said it picked the class, which is taught by Professor Michael Burgett, for the way it combines insect studies with humor in the form of insect-related installments of Gary Larson's "Far Side" cartoons, The (Portland) Oregonian reported Tuesday.

Burgett said the more than 20-year-old class admits only 20 students from the University Honors College each semester.

"It's a fun way to get entomological principles across to really bright kids," the professor said. "These cartoons speak to science and society in the language of humor that everyone understands."

Burgett, whose class was also honored last year by The Chronicle of Higher Education, said he doesn't expect university brass to respond to the Playboy mention.

"I'm still waiting to get a congratulatory note from the front office," Burgett said. "I'll be waiting a long time."
