NORWALK, Conn., Sept. 14 (UPI) -- A man was arrested and charged with robbing a Norwalk, Conn., bank after a dye pack exploded in the taxi he used to make his escape, authorities said.

Curtis Tolliver, 51, was arrested shortly after 10:30 a.m. Monday in a store on Connecticut Avenue in Norwalk, the Stamford (Conn.) Advocate reported.

Tolliver was still covered in some of the pack's red dye when police found him, Norwalk Patrol Sgt. James Boff said.

Police say Tolliver entered the cab on Connecticut Avenue and told the driver that he needed cash for the fare and asked to be taken to the nearby Webster Bank.

Tolliver came out of the bank carrying a bag, police said. Shortly after he got back into the cab, the dye pack exploded in the vehicle.

The driver forced Tolliver out of his cab across from the shopping plaza where police found and arrested him, the Advocate reported.
