REED POINT, Mont., Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Participants and officials with the 2010 Great Montana Sheep Drive said the running of the sheep was marred by rain and directionally-challenged sheep.

Announcer Diana Hahn, who has participated in the event since the first sheep run 22 years ago, said Sunday's event had more rain than any previous year and the 350 sheep scheduled to run down the town's main street instead turned tail and ran out of the city, The Billings (Mont.) Gazette reported Monday.

"There were people standing in the middle of the street," Hahn said. "The sheep are just very confused today for some reason, and I don't understand why."

However, despite the confused sheep, some of those attending Sunday's event said they were not disappointed.

"Hot, dry or smoking with fire, you still show up," said Joann Parker, a Reed Point resident who has attended the event for 15 years. "In this weather, you have to be pretty hardcore to hang out in here this long."
