LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo., Aug. 11 (UPI) -- A Missouri family said a kitten hitched a ride home in the wheel well of their car from a city in Kansas 2 hours away.

The Sandbothe family said the feline braved triple-digit temperatures in the wheel well of their Toyota all the way from Burlington, Kan., to Lee's Summit, Mo., a trip of about 2 hours, KMBC-TV, Kansas City, Mo., reported Wednesday.

Teri Sandbothe said they did not know the kitten was there until they heard it meowing when they pulled into their driveway.

"We couldn't find him. He was in the car somewhere when we heard the meow. So we ripped the lining out of the wheel well. We ripped it out, and finally we found him," she said.

Sandbothe said the cat, which they named Yota after their car, appears to be in good health and they are trying to find it a new home.
