LAS VEGAS, June 24 (UPI) -- Authorities in Las Vegas said several people were stung by bees from a flatbed truck loaded with hives and parked near the city's Patriot Park.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue officials said a deputy city marshal patrolling the area tracked the unusual number of bees back to the truck Wednesday and firefighters were brought in to spray the hives with water fog because the bees were beginning to die from direct sunlight exposure, the Las Vegas Sun reported Thursday.

The officials said several stings were reported but no one was seriously injured.

Officials said the driver returned and explained he was driving the truck from Southern California to North Dakota and stopped for a short time because he lived nearby.

Fire and Rescue officials said they contacted the owner of the truck, who explained the vehicle has to be kept moving to keep the bees cool.

Police escorted the truck back to Interstate 15.
