BIRMINGHAM, England, May 14 (UPI) -- Women bumped by the grind of looking for work in Britain were sent applications by a government-run job center to bump and grind on Web-based sex sites.
Job-seekers were told they could earn up to $1,000 a week if they were willing to strip on Webcams and engage in sexually explicit conversations with customers, Sky News Online reported Thursday.
Women looking for clerical work were given applications for the sex-oriented jobs when they enrolled at Jobcenter Plus offices in Birmingham, Warwickshire and Shropshire.
Faceclick, the recruiting agency, encouraged applicants to perform "activities that you feel comfortable with" when nude in front of the camera.
One 19-year-old woman told a local newspaper said she was surprised that a government agency was a hiring platform for the sex industry, Sky News said.
"My job in a call center is a fixed-term contract that's coming to an end and I've just taken out a car loan so I'm desperate for work," she said. "But I'm not so desperate that I'm prepared to perform disgusting acts on an Internet sex line."
The Department for Work and Pensions said it was reviewing its procedures.
