SYDNEY, May 6 (UPI) -- Australian police said a cash courier was robbed in a parking lot by a man disguised in a full-length black burqa.

Officers said the 35-year-old courier, who works for a jewelry business, spotted two men following him after he withdrew a large amount of money Wednesday from a bank in Sydney, the Daily Mail reported Thursday.

The man said one of the men approached him while he was getting into his car and told him one of his tires was going flat. The courier said he was suspicious, so he changed his tire in a nearby street and drove to a city shopping center.

He said a man wearing the head-to-toe burqa and sunglasses approached him, pulled out a pistol and demanded a large amount of money.

The courier said he handed over the bag of cash and the suspect fled.

Burqas, Islamic veils for women covering the entire face and body, are rarely worn by Australian Muslims, the Daily Mail said.
