ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- A Florida woman said she is no longer bothered by her extra weight after she was shot in New Jersey and doctors said her "love handles" saved her.

Samantha Lynn Frazier, 35, said her family paid for her Atlantic City vacation to visit relatives but the vacation was interrupted at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday when she was shot outside Herman's Place bar on New York Avenue, the Press of Atlantic City reported Wednesday.

Frazier said she passed out after realizing she had been shot and woke up in the Regional Trauma Unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center where doctors told her that her extra weight likely saved her life.

"My love handles saved my life," she said.

"I'd been hollering how I want to lose weight," Frazier said. "I don't want to lose weight anymore. I want to be as big as I can if it's going to stop a bullet."

Police said they do not believe Frazier was the intended target of the shooting and they are searching for a suspect, described as a 5-foot-5 male.
