NEW YORK, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- A New York career Web site said its survey suggests the number of people avoiding office romance due to the unstable economy is shrinking.
Vault.com said its survey last year found 80 percent of respondents in the poll were wary of office romance due to the economic recession but this year's survey of workers at 1,050 U.S. companies found the number shrank to 69.7 percent.
"The shock of the economy is no longer there," said Connie Thanasoulis-Cerrachio, Vault.com career services expert. "Work is still the main way to meet decent people, and when you are working longer hours, it may be the only way to meet people. But if you decide to enter an office relationship, you have to use common sense and make sure your romance doesn't get in the way of your work."
The survey also found 60 percent of respondents admitted to participating in an office romance and 20.2 percent said they met their spouse or long-term partner at work. An additional 31.6 percent admitted to having secret romantic trysts at work and 6 percent said they had been caught in the act by colleagues.
