DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Sheriff's deputies in Florida said a carjacker used a cellphone left in a stolen vehicle to call the owner and offer to sell it back.

Volusia County sheriff's deputies said the carjacker pulled a gun on a female passenger while the owner of the car was inside his mother's home near Daytona Beach just prior to 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported Thursday.

The passenger left her cellphone in the Nissan Altima before the thief drove off and deputies said the man used the phone to call the owner and offered to return the car for a $200 fee, investigators said.

Deputies said the vehicle was found unoccupied at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Holly Point Apartments. Investigators said there was no sign of the carjacker.
