HOLON, Israel, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Israeli police officers on scooters, in patrol cars and on foot gave chase when a pony was reported galloping in the streets of Holon, authorities said.

Municipal inspectors said they received a report about the pony galloping along Dov Hoz Boulevard Wednesday morning and the chase was soon joined by scooter-riding officers from the Israel Police Yassam special forces unit and a police patrol car, Haaretz reported Thursday.

Police said an inspector with a rope arrived and ensnared the animal.

"The pony was exhausted when it was captured," city veterinarian Uri Bartman said. "After we revived him he was taken to the Holon municipal 'Hai Beholon' zoo, where he joined his new neighbors -- rabbits, turtles, goats, parrots, reptiles and more. It appears that he is adjusting to his new home."

Police said Wednesday they had not yet determined the pony's origins.
