CINCINNATI, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- A 71-year-old man said he and an 84-year-old friend helped Cincinnati police capture three men suspected in a string of area break-ins.

Jim Bodmer said he and his friend, Don Baechle, volunteers in a Citizens on Patrol group in the city's College Hill neighborhood, were listening to a police radio earlier this month when they heard of a suspected break-in. They immediately attempted to spot the thieves as they fled the scene, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Tuesday.

Bodmer said after determining the thieves would likely flee through the backyard of the home, he and Baechle headed to the site and successfully spotted the suspects.

"We called their description in over the radio and the rest is history. (The police) caught one under a pile of leaves. They found the other one in a garbage can, and I don't know where they found the other one," he said.

The Enquirer said police suspect the three men may be responsible for 12 additional burglaries in the area.
