AARP con features entertainment, classes

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- This year's AARP convention in Las Vegas features a Facebook seminar, celebrity guests and an estimated 25,000 participants, organizers said.

The convention, which began Thursday and ends Saturday at the Sands Expo, features performances from Faith Hill and Gloria Estefan as well as appearances by Olympia Dukakis, Al Roker, Maya Angelou, Magic Johnson, Steve Guttenberg and others, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Friday.

The convention also features a number of seminars, including classes on using Facebook, starting a small business, dating after 50 and retirement planning.

"We expect to come very close to breaking an attendance record, even with the down economy," AARP spokeswoman Deborah Moore Jaquith said.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority said the convention is expected to bring $39 million to the city, not counting proceeds from gaming.
