FALMOUTH, Mass., Sept. 11 (UPI) -- The family of a girl who dropped a message in a bottle into the Atlantic Ocean near Bermuda said the bottle was found only miles from her Massachusetts home.

Denise Acquaviva said her daughter, Meagan Bilodeau, 8, dropped the bottled message during a cruise June 18. Ten days later it was discovered by Teddy Herrick, 11, who was boating with her family in Massachusetts' Vineyard Sound, only 15 to 20 miles from Meagan's home near Falmouth, CNN reported Friday.

"It was almost as if the bottle had been equipped with a homing device," Acquaviva said of the bottle, which contained a message from her daughter and the girl's name and address.

Acquaviva said Meagan heard from Teddy late last month and both families were surprised by how far the bottle had traveled.

"I thought that it followed me home," Meagan said.
