NEW YORK, July 23 (UPI) -- New York's famous Naked Cowboy has officially announced his intention to run for mayor of the city.

The Naked Cowboy, real name Robert Burck, announced at his usual Times Square haunt Wednesday that he plans to run for mayor with the campaign promise "to do more with less."

Burck, who is known for playing his guitar while clad only in a cowboy hat and his underpants, said his administration would introduce a "Naked Stimulus Package" for the city that would include micro loans, tax holidays and other programs aimed at helping small businesses.

"Small businesses are the key to getting this city back on its feet," Burck said. "We need better growth initiatives, but also smarter spending. It's time to tighten our belt across the board. Of course that's just a saying though, 'cause I don't even wear a belt -- and that's my point. Nobody knows how to do more with less than yours truly, and that's the kind of leadership this city needs during these challenging times."

The performer said he would like to see taxi call buttons installed on every city corner, frequent security stops at transportation hubs and building guard posts, gay marriage instituted in the city and the creation of a Times Square Wedding Chapel to rival Las Vegas' billion-dollar wedding industry.
