DETROIT, May 9 (UPI) -- A 61-year-old mother of five is graduating from the University of Detroit 30 years after she took her first college course.
Lynda McDade, who also is a grandmother, was to graduate Saturday during the same ceremony as two of her daughters, which she called her Mother's Day bonus, The Detroit Free Press reported.
Her 30-year perseverance, she said, came from leaning on "God and my children."
A third daughter, Dana McDade-Douse, 38, said she remembers her mother's determination when she entered the final stretch last year.
"She was like ... 'I'm going back to school. I'm going to do this,' " McDade-Douse said.
